Raghuram Rajan’s Birthday: Raghuram Rajan was born on 3 February 1963 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. One of the country’s leading economists and former governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has turned 59 today. At the age of 50, Raghuram Rajan became the youngest Governor of the Central Bank of India (RBI). He was born into a Tamil family and his father was a senior IAS officer in the Government of India. Raghuram Rajan received his primary education from Delhi Public School, RK Puram, Delhi.
The full name of the former RBI governor is Raghuram Govinda Rajan. He graduated from IIT Delhi. He did B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi in 1985. At the same time, in 1987, he graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Raghuram Rajan holds a PhD from the world renowned University of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Rajan has been called the James Bond of Indian economy and even the rock star economist. Raghuram Rajan completed his term as RBI Governor from September 2013 to September 2016. Raghuram Rajan was the Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from October 2003 to December 2006. In 2008, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh appointed Raghuram Rajan as his economic adviser.

In the same year, Raghuram Rajan was appointed head of a high-level committee on economic reform of the Planning Commission. The committee has completed a report on economic reform under the supervision of Raghuram Rajan. Time Magazine also named Raghuram Rajan as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2016. Rajan authored a book, The Third Pillar and Fault Lines: How Hidden Fracture Still Threatens the World Economy.
Personal life
When it comes to Raghuram Rajan’s personal life, Rajan’s mother’s name is Mithili and his father’s name is Govinda Rajan. In 1966, his father moved to Indonesia. Because of this his family had to leave. Rajan also has a brother and sister. He married his college friend Radhika Puri. Radhika and Rajan met while studying at IIM Ahmedabad. Radhika is currently teaching law at the University of Chicago. Rajan has two children.
