McLaren Racing builds NFT for fans, will buy exclusive digital collectibles

The first digital component will be given as a free gift to the first 5,000 fans who join the collective platform. From there, fans can buy one or more components.

McLaren Racing has launched a platform where fans and collectors can buy McLaren Racing branded digital collectibles or non-fungible tokens (NFTs). McLaren Racing is a popular British racing team and the second oldest active Formula 1 team in the world. Named ‘McLaren Racing Collective’, this platform will become a place to store exclusive McLaren racing collectibles in the times to come. Its first drop will allow fans and NFT depositors to purchase various components of the MCL35M 2021 Formula 1 race car, which is built from official CAD generated by McLaren Racing.

The first digital component will be given as a free gift to the first 5,000 fans who join the collective platform. From there, fans can buy one or more components. These are the entire 22 components that are released to fully assemble the digital MCL35M race car. These collectables will be released in five phases, with the first four components being dropped on October 24.

The McLaren Racing Collective is built on Tezos, an energy efficient blockchain, and is also McLaren’s official technical partner. Together with McLaren Racing, the duo is facilitating the creation of limited digital assets so fans can buy their share of the team.

The first person to complete the full digital MCL35M will win a VIP trip to the 2022 Formula 1 Grand Prix. This will be the first of many campaigns as the platform for the team to allow a McLaren Racing fan to stay connected for a long time.

At the launch Lindsey Eckhouse, McLaren Racing’s eCommerce and eSports Licensing Director, said, “We are excited to launch the McLaren Racing Collective, which will allow us to engage fans in a new space through NFTs built on the energy efficient Tezos blockchain. Since then, we are innovating to enhance our fans experience.
